IPL Media Rights: When is the e-auction, Who are the bidders, What is the process?

The Indian Premier League Media Rights e-auction for the or the Indian Premier League Seasons 2023-2027 will get underway at 11:00 AM IST on Sunday with plenty of big players the fray. The parent body of the lucrative tournament — the Board of Control for Cricket in India will auction the television and digital streaming rights — with the board expected to make huge gains in the process. The IPL Media Rights e-auction will begin in Mumbai on Sunday with no-end day is prospect with the final announcement of the winners expected to arrive by Tuesday.

IPL Media Rights: What is the process?

The Board of Control For Cricket in India had invited bids from reputed entities to acquire the Media Rights for the Indian Premier League Seasons 2023-2027 through a tender process. “The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process including eligibility requirements, process for submissions of bids, proposed media rights packages, and obligations, etc. are contained in the ‘Invitation to Tender’ (“ITT”) which will be made available on receipt of payment of non-refundable fee of INR 25,00,000 (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakhs Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax. 

“The procedure to procure the ITT documents is enlisted in Annexure A to this document. The ITT will be available for purchase till May 10, 2022. Interested parties are requested to email the details of payment made for the purchase of the ITT to [email protected], as per the procedure laid down in Annexure A. It is clarified that the ITT documents shall be shared only receipt of payment of the non-refundable ITT fee.

“Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing this ITT does not entitle any person to bid. BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner at its discretion”.

IPL Media Rights: Who are in the bidders?

Multi-millionaire giants TV18-Viacom, Disney, Amazon interested and Sony have bought the Invitation-To-Tender (ITT) for the e-auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for 2023-27, indicating early interest in the deal. However, Amazon had pulled out of the race earlier this week, with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance among the top-runner in the race to acquire the IPL Media Rights. Disney Star, Sony-Zee are the other major giants who will be in race to bid for the grabs in place.

IPL media rights: What is at stake?  

The IPL media rights will be sold in four separate buckets for the first time. The BCCI has made it clear that no consolidated bid for all four buckets will be entertained and said that the bidding parties will have to separately bid for each package. 

Bundle A: It includes the Television rights for India subcontinent. The base price in this category is Rs 49 crore per game. 

Bundle B: It includes the Digital rights for the India subcontinent. The base price for this package is Rs 33 crore per game.

Bundle C: A package of 18 matches — season opener, playoffs, evening matches — the reserve price in this cluster is calculated at Rs 16 crore per game.

Bundle D: It includes the rest of the world’s rights. Base price for this package is Rs 3 crore per game.
