IPL Media Rights: SONY set for TV broadcast return as netizens recall 'good old days'

Fans rejoiced on Twitter as SONY is likely to bag the IPL TV broadcast deal for 2023-2027 cycle.

The final day of the IPL Media Rights e-auction came to an end after a seven hours of bull-fight among top corporates which began at 11:00 AM and concluded at 06:00 PM in Mumbai. There was a likely increment of INR 1 crore in the bidding, every half an hour, with the final results still to be made official. It is likely that an official announcement could be made on Tuesday after the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) undergoes all the formalities with the winning parties.

IPL Media Rights: Different broadcasters for TV and Digital likey

However, it has been speculated that Sony Television bagged the bracket A for the TV rights while the Digital rights will belong to a different entity. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the TV rights were bagged by a company for INR 57.5 Crore per game. The company also challenged for the digital rights but it was closed at around INR 50 lakh. Meanwhile, the Package C for the non-exclusive games, was sold at INR 18 crore.

As soon as the rumors broke that Sony Television had bagged the TV rights for the IPL 2023-27 cycle, the cricket crazy fans took to Twitter, to recall the good old days which saw the broadcast media telecast the lucrative tournament in the inaugural years. One of the fans also tweeted, “Sony Grabs the IPL Media Rights for Whooping 43,500 Crores Good Old Days are back”.
