IPL Media Rights: Disney Star and VIACOM 18 emerge as winners

The TV Rights for the IPL 2023-27 cycle in the sub-continent was retained by Disney Star for INR 23,575 crore (US$ 3 billion approx.) while Viacom 18 secured the digital rights in the same region and media rights (both TV and digital) across three global regions – – Australia + New Zealand, the UK and South Africa – for INR 23,758 crore (US$ 3 billion approx). Times Internet, meanwhile, grabbed the media rights for two other global regions — the Middle East (INR 205 crore/US$ 26.27 million approx.) and the USA (INR 258 crore/US$ 33.06 million approx.).

An elated Rebecca Campbell, Chairman, International Content and Operations, The Walt Disney Company, mentioned that their extension of the TV rights was possible due to disciplined bids in place with a focus on long-term value. “We chose not to proceed with the digital rights given the price required to secure that package. IPL is an important component of our portfolio of television channels in India, providing an incredible opportunity for us to showcase.

“The Walt Disney Company’s powerful global brands and iconic storytelling, as well as Disney Star’s impressive collection of local original content, to millions of viewers in India,” Rebecca Campbell, Chairman, International Content and Operations, The Walt Disney Company said in an official statement.
