IPL Auctions 2023: three players who might not get big bucks

Certain players made great dollars last season, and their stock in the T20 circuit has dropped since then. As a result, IPL franchises may be hesitant to spend money on these T20 talents.

The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi. Most franchisees will enter the marquee event in an attempt to fill voids in their roster, while other teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, who have discharged the majority of their players, will attempt to reconstruct their entire unit. The forthcoming player auction will include top-tier cricketers such as Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green, and franchises may engage in a bidding war to secure their services. However, certain players made great dollars last season, and their stock in the T20 circuit has dropped since then. As a result, IPL franchises may be hesitant to spend money on these T20 talents.

Romario Shepherd

Sunrisers Hyderabad turned on Romario to fill the team’s all-around need and hence signed him at the IPL 2022 auction. However, the 28-year-old was unable to repay the faith and had a rather dismal performance in the lucrative T20 tournament’s 15th edition. Romario performed admirably with the bat, scoring 58 runs in three games at a strike rate of 141.46, but he struggled with the ball, allowing runs at an economy rate of 10.89. SRH bought him for a record INR 7.75 crore, and after failing to justify the price tag, the Hyderabad franchise removed him from the squad. It would be surprising if he fethches the same amount again.

Kane Williamson

In the Indian Premier League, Kane Williamson has been a standout performer. The experienced batter has played 76 games and scored 2101 runs with a strike rate of 126.03. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed the Kiwi batter for the 2022 season and made him the team’s leader. The 32-year-old, though, was a pale shell of his former self, scoring only 216 runs in 13 matches with a strike rate of 93.51. The Hyderabad franchise paid a whopping INR 14 crore on him and anticipated more from him. As a result, team management opted to let go of the seasoned batter before of this year’s auction. His T20I form has been poor so there is every chance that he might not get picked at all.

Shivam Mavi

Kolkata spent a hefty INR 7.25 crore to get Mavi in the previous mega auction, but given that the right-arm seamer failed horribly, it does not appear that franchises will go all out to sign him in the upcoming auction. Mavi struggled with the ball, taking only five wickets in six games and allowing runs at an alarming rate of 10.32. Following a string of disappointing performances by the Uttar Pradesh pacer, KKR parted ways with him before of the IPL 2023 auction. It would be a surprise if he gets anywhere near the same amount as the last auction.
