Rajasthan Royals (RR) enjoyed a memorable Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, reaching their first final since 2008. Under Sanju Samson’s captaincy, RR finished second in the points table and defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to qualify for their second final. Even though they lost in the final to Gujarat Titans (GT), there were several positives for RR moving forward. In this article we look at the there players RR might release before IPL 2023.

Navdeep Saini

He is a promising fast bowler who has demonstrated his abilities in both international cricket and the IPL. He was signed for INR 2.6 crore by the franchise and was expected to be the major pacer for the 2022 season. However, Saini played in two games in the 2022 season. In his first game, he finished with stats of 2/36. In the following match, he went for 36 runs in three overs and took one wicket.
Finally, the team had enough excellent pace-bowling alternatives in Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult, and Obed McCoy. The Royals will almost certainly release him to free up funds.

Devdutt Padikkal

RR spent Rs 7.75 crore on Devdutt Padikkal and supported him in every match. However, the batter did not have a memorable season, scoring 376 runs in 17 matches. Padikkal’s strike rate was low, with a strike rate of 122.88. Padikkal batted in the middle for RR’s action-packed top order, and with their opening combination expected to remain identical, Padikkal may be removed if he can’t deliver in the middle. He just had one half-century in IPL 2022.

Daryl Mitchell

Mitchell managed only 33 runs in two appearances, with a strike rate of 75. With such a low strike rate, he couldn’t aid the team’s cause by putting up a big score and was dropped from the starting XI. Mitchell left the RR camp before the IPL 2022 playoffs to join his national team for the England tour. The Royals will almost certainly look past Mitchell for the upcoming season.
