Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two new franchises that made their debut in IPL 2022. KL Rahul led the side and team management formed a brilliant squad at the IPL 2022 mega auction. In its first season of IPL, LSG finished 3rd in the table. They faced 4th place Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator Match and were knocked out by them at that stage. Here are the three players that LSG could release ahead of the mini-auction in December.

Manish Pandey

LSG bought Manish Pandey at the mega auction in 2022 for a sum of INR 4.6 CR to strengthen their Indian batting core. The 33-year-old has been around the IPL since its inception and has scored 3648 runs in 160 matches at a strike rate of 121.52. Manish Panday was the first player to get a century in the IPL, but his performances have gone down over the years, he was nowhere close to his best and struggled to get going in the 2012 season of the IPL. In the six games he played, he could score just 88 runs at a strike rate of 110.00. Manish was replaced by Deepak Hooda in the middle order and grabbed the opportunity with both hands, scoring 451 runs in 15 games at a strike rate of 136.67. With Hooda, acing the middle-order role LSG might consider releasing Manish ahead of the auction.

Andrew Tye

Lucknow Super Giants signed Aussie pacer Andrew Tye as the injury replacement for English pacer Mark Wood last season. Tye is known for variations of pace and has a plethora of change-up deliveries. Unfortunately, he didn’t live up to the expectation of the team. Andrew Tye featured in three games for the Lucknow Super Giants last season but failed to impress as he could only pick up two wickets and had an expensive economy rate of 9.72. Mark Wood is fit again and is likely to lead LSG’s pace attack in IPL 2023. The franchise already has many pace bowlers, including Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan, and Jason Holder, hence are likely to release the Australian ahead of the Auction in December.

Manan Vohra

Lucknow Super Giants signed Manan Vohra at a base price of INR 20 lakh in the auction for IPL 2022. The management kept him as the backup opener in the squad. However, with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock opening the batting for the franchise, Vohra didn’t get a chance at the top. He got two games at number three but failed to impress with the bat as he managed to score only 19 runs in two matches. LSG might opt to release Manan Vohra ahead of IPL 2023 as the franchise is likely to invest in another young talent, who will serve the franchise for a long period of time.
