Gujarat Titans won the Indian Premier League 2022 in their first attempt with all-rounder Hardik Pandya leading his team to an emphatic over Rajasthan Royals in the final. Pandya found the right balance between leading the side and also performing as a player. He was smart with his bowling changes, making intelligent decisions with the batting order, he took responsibility with both bat and ball and led from the front. Here are some of the players that the team might release before the auction in December.

Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar was one of the prominent all-rounders of Team India in 2018 and 2019, while Hardik Pandya was recovering from an injury. Shankar was bought in by the Gujarat Titans franchise in the IPL 2022 auctions and failed to impress the management. The all-rounder scored only 19 runs in the tournament. He also was unable to take a wicket. Shankar had a disastrous economy of 10.00 in IPL 2022 and has a big weakness playing against spin. GT would definitely be thinking of releasing him before the start of the ini-auction in December.

Varun Aaron

The right-arm fast bowler’s career promised a lot when he entered the scene back in 2015, he has raw pace but was never able to do justice with this gift. He was one of the main backups in the pace bowling department of Gujarat Titans. He received two opportunities to prove himself in IPL 2022 but got hammered by the batters. Even though he managed to pick up 2 wickets, Aaron could not stop the batters from taking him to the cleaners, with Yash Dayal in the picture who was very impressive will get the nod ahead of Aaron who is likely to be released by the franchise.

Matthew Wade

Gujarat Titans signed the Australian wicketkeeper for INR 2.4 crore. Wade came into the IPL with form behind his back. However, he failed to live up to the expectations of the team management. Wade only scored 157 runs in 10 matches at a disappointing strike rate of 113.76. He was dropped from the team mid-way through the season and Wriddhiman Saha was given a chance at the top to open the batting. Gujarat Titans also have Rahmanhullah Gurbaz (Afg) who could be a backup option for Saha. The defending champions could release Matthew Wade ahead of the mini-auction in Kochi, later this year.
