IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Kagiso Rabada Goes to Punjab Kings for Rs 9.25 crore, Trent Boult to Royals For 8 Crore

Pat Cummins was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 7.25 Crore while Punjab Kings acquired Kagiso Rabada for Rs 9.25 Crore. Trent Boult was also bought for Rs 8 crore by Rajasthan Royals

The marquee set of players in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction continued to get big bids. After Shikhar Dhawan and R Ashwin, Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada were bought by the franchises. Pat Cummins was bought for Rs 7.25 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR had competition from Gujarat Titans but Cummins was bought in the end. But, the rate for Cummins is almost half of the rate that he was bought for in IPL 2020. In that edition, Pat Cummins was bought for a record Rs 15.5 crore.

However, after Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada was part of an intense bid between Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. Rabada became the most expensive player so far with Rs 9.25 crore as he went to Punjab Kings. This would be the second franchise that Rabada plays for after a couple of years with the Delhi Capitals franchise. He had been the leading wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2019 and 2020 edition.

After Rabada and Cummins, Trent Boult of New Zealand was the next bowler. He got great bids from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals. He was almost about to be bought for Rajasthan Royals but Mumbai Indians jumped into the fray. That increased his price value immensely. Boult was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 8 crore.

Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin Shine

Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be bought in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. With a base price of Rs 2 crore, there were bids from Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. In the end, Shikhar Dhawan was bought for Rs 8.25 crore by Punjab Kings. The next player who was bought by R Ashwin. Ashwin was sold for Rs 5 Crore to Rajasthan Royals. There was an intense bidding war between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Dhawan, who was released by the Delhi Capitals after the end of the IPL 2021 edition, had a decent amount of bidding. A total of 217 slots will be filled, with 600 players up for grabs. 102 players are in the range of Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.

48 players are in the base price of Rs 2 crore while 34 players are in the Rs 1 crore base price bracket. 20 players are in the Rs 1.5 crore base price range. Initially, it was reported that 590 players will go under the hammer. Now, according to an ESPNCricinfo report, there will be a total of 600 players. The reason – 10 players including Under-19 World Cup stars have been added. This includes seven Indian players and three Australian players. All of them are in the Rs 20 lakh base price category.
