The IPL 2022 mega auction ended with a degree of speed, as teams took their time in the early rounds and were then asked to speed up their decision-making for the uncapped player lots.

This did lead to quite a few unsold players, but there were a few notable auction buys made all the same. The most notable of those was, of course, Avesh Khan.

The pacer did a wonderful job at Delhi Capitals last season, meaning many teams had an interest in him. But in the end, it was Lucknow Super Giants who won out – but for a whopping fee of Rs. 10 crore.

This made Avesh the most expensive non-capped player auction buy in IPL history. But he wasn’t the only one to become an IPL crorepati.

Kartik Tyagi was snagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a fee of Rs 4. crore. Wicketkeepers Anuj Rawat and KS Bharat went to Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 3.4 crore) and Delhi Capitals (2 crore), respectively.

There were also two spinners who fetched relatively large sums. Murugan Ashwin went for a tidy Rs. 1.6 crore to Mumbai Indians, and R Sai Kishore sparked a massive bidding war that ended with a Rs. 3 crore bid from Gujarat Titans, who won his services.

Shreyas Gopal, formerly of Rajasthan Royals, went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 75 lakhs. Sheldon Jackson was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 60 lakhs.

Besides that, a number of players were also purchased for lesser sums or at base price. The auction ended after the 11th lot of players, which featured uncapped spinners.

IPL 2022 auction goes mega

The 2022 edition of the IPL auction is set to be one of the biggest in recent memory. This is because of the addition of two new franchises into the fold.

Yes, the IPL is now back to being a 10-team tournament. This is not the first time such a concept has been trialled; the league switched to a similar format back in 2011 too.

However, the two new teams would get caught up in financial issues and fold soon enough. The two new teams for 2022, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, will hope to avoid a similar fate.

As things stand, both new teams have made some interesting signings before the auction. Gujarat will be captained by Hardik Pandya, and the team also has Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan and Indian batsman Shubman Gill in their ranks.

Lucknow, on the other hand, have signed KL Rahul as their skipper along with Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and uncapped Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
