IPL 2022 schedule: CSK and KKR all set to play the opener on March 26 at Wankhede

Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions of the Indian Premier League are all set to take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of IPL 2022.

Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions of the Indian Premier League are all set to take on last season’s runner-up Kolkata Knight Riders in the first match of IPL 2022 on Saturday, March 26 at the Wankhede stadium. However, this season will also see the first appearance of IPL newcomers Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, who play against each other at the Wankhede stadium as well.

The first double-header of the season will take place on March 27, with Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians to face off in the afternoon game, at the Brabourne stadium, whereas Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play against each other in the second game at the DY Patil stadium. Meanwhile, there is set to be a total of 12 double header days, with six double-headers on Saturdays and six on Sundays as well.

However, the penultimate league game is set to be held on May 21, featuring Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede stadium. The final league game will be played at the same venue on May 22, with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Punjab Kings.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants take on each other in their respective final games, set to be played on May 18 at the DY Patil stadium. Royal Challengers and Gujarat Titans will play against on May 19 at the Wankhede stadium in what will be the last league game for both of the teams as well. Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings play their last league match against each other at the Brabourne stadium on May 20.

The Wankhede stadium and the DY Patil stadium, meanwhile, will host 20 matches each during the season. And, the Brabourne stadium and the MCA stadium in Pune will host 15 matches each as well. 70 matches will be played within 58 days, starting from March 26 to May 22 as well.

Meanwhile, according to the schedule, Mumbai Indians will play four games at the Wankhede stadium – vs Lucknow Super Giants on April 24, Chennai Super Kings on May 12, Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 17 and Delhi Capitals on May 21 respectively. However, as per the reports, some of the franchises had also objected to Mumbai Indians getting to play at the Wankhede, with no other team getting to play at their respective home ground. But the BCCI has equally distributed the games to all the 10 teams among the four grounds for the season as well.
