The Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises have had some new developments in the build-up to IPL 2022. With the mega-auction now slated on February 12,13 in Bangalore, the teams have less than a month to finalize their auction plans. However, for the Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises, they will have till January 22, 2022, to finalize the draft picks. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI has given them till 5 PM on January 22 to finalize the new signings. A total of three players with not more than one overseas player can be picked by each of the franchises.

The delay in allocating the signings for the new franchises was due to some issues related to the Ahmedabad franchise. The BCCI had expressed concern that CVC Capital, the firm that acquired the Ahmedabad IPL Franchise had links to off-shore betting sites. However, once BCCI gave the Letter of Intent, it gave the green signal for Ahmedabad to participate in IPL 2022.

Ahmedabad, Lucknow plans in IPL 2022

The new teams, according to the BCCI General Advisory, will have to forfeit Rs 33 crore for acquiring the three players. Rs 15 crore, Rs 11 crore, and Rs 7 crore are the stipulated fee slab for the players for the franchises if they sign three capped players. If it is two players, then the rates will be Rs 24 crore, which is broken into Rs 14 crore and Rs 10 crore. If the franchise signs only one player, then only Rs 14 crore will have to be forfeited. An uncapped player would cost them only Rs 4 crore. They cannot sign more than one uncapped player.

There is a big rumor that Hardik Pandya might be the captain of the Ahmedabad franchise. However, there has been no official announcement from the Ahmedabad franchise.

For the Lucknow franchise, it is reported that either KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer might be roped in. Rahul and Iyer might be the captains after both players left Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.

Mega Auction to be held in February

The latest development suggests that the dates of the mega-auction will remain on February 12 and 13. It will be held in Bangalore, with proper coronavirus social distancing norms. A total of 10 teams will participate in IPL 2022.

Ahmedabad and Lucknow are expected to announce the list of players in a couple of days. The names might be formalized with it. Teams retained from the range of 2-4 players in all the other eight teams. Every team had a purse of Rs 90 crore and with the retention, some teams have a bigger purse. Some will have a lesser purse. The BCCI is hoping that the 2022 IPL is held totally in India but the rising coronavirus cases has them worried.
