Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricketer KS Bharat has expressed a desire to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, in order to mark the perfect farewell to current skipper Virat Kohli’s journey as a captain with the franchise. Kohli has announced his desire to step down as the captain of the team at the end of the ongoing edition. Bharat recently smashed a six off the final delivery to earn the Bangalore-based franchise a triumph against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their final league match of IPL 2021. Kohli was supremely elated following this moment, going on to jump with joy as other teammates hugged him.

“Virat loves youngsters”

The RCB skipper started jumping in joy as other teammates hugged him, before he sprinted on the field to laud Bharat. The cricketer remained calm under pressure, lofting Avesh Khan for a straight six before going on to remain unbeaten on 78 off 52 balls.

“Yes definitely winning the cup and giving Virat bhai the IPL title will be cherry on the cake, but if you ask me, playing with Virat Bhai is a very big feeling. Virat loves youngsters, he encourages youngsters. He works incredibly hard like any other young player in RCB. Virat is a thorough professional and playing with him gives an element of confidence to us. He is a very friendly guy, he is always there, he is always ready to guide us. I am blessed to be around him. Our focus has been on one game at a time it can be any team, any given day or any ground. So numbers or teams, players, it doesn’t matter. What matters the most is, our preparation, our consistency and intent,” he said in the virtual presser as quoted by India Today.

Bharat further discussed the final ball of the match, which granted him the perfect opportunity to seal the clash on a high.

“I was thinking if I can put the ball over the fence (when six was needed off one ball) and when it was wide it gave us the opportunity to go for the six. Fortunately, it went out of the park. Virat bhai said ‘it was an incredible effort. It is definitely a special moment for you, so enjoy’. He was overwhelmed that the last ball went for a six and we won the game,” he stated.

“We had nothing to lose”

Kohli seemed elated following RCB’s triumph, terming the encounter as an “unbelievable” one.

“Unbelievable game. We had nothing to lose, but it was a competitive game which is always the case in the IPL. To lose wickets and to still beat the team at the top of the table feels good. We have beaten them twice now. The way AB batted in the beginning and then with KS (Bharat) and Maxwell in the end was unbelievable. The reality was that we had to win by 160 runs, and we thought that there could be a collapse or something. We thought of it the other way around. This gives us the confidence that we can pull off a game from any situation. We haven’t chased much in this tournament,” he said.
