The likes of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Gautam Gambhir are some of the surprising names who have registered the most ducks in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Walking back to the dressing room without scoring a run is never a good feeling for a batsman. It is always the first run that is the hardest to get. The need to score quickly and sometime from the first ball itself in a Twenty20 increases chance to register ducks.
There are four players who have been dismissed for a duck 13 times, which is the most. The list includes three batsman and a bowler- Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Sharma, Parthiv Patel and Harbhajan Singh. Rohit Sharma who has won six IPL titles and captained Mumbai Indians to five triumphs. He has scored 5230 runs at an average of 31.31 in 200 games. Rahane has scored 3933 runs at an average of 31.71 in 149 IPL matches.
Parthiv Patel, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket has played for six IPL teams. He has scored 2848 runs at an average of 22.60 in 139 IPL appearances.
After these four players, another bunch of five players has 12 ducks to each one of their name in IPL. Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Piyush Chawla, Gautam Gambhir and Mandeep Singh are the others. Rayudu, who played a vital role in Chennai Super Kings’ title triumph in 2018, has scored 3659 runs.
Manish Pandey, the first Indian to score a century in IPL way back in 2009, is now a veteran middle order batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has scored 3268 runs at an average of 39.70 in 46 appearances in the IPL. Gautam Gambhir, two time IPL winning captain in 2012 and 2014 with KKR has scored 4217 runs in IPL at an average of 31 in 154 IPL matches. Mandeep is currently playing for Punjab Kings and has struggled a bit for impact.
