A devastating display of top-notch bowling by defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) saw the Rajasthan Royals (RR) finish their innings with just 90 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets on Tuesday in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The stars on the night for the men in blue were Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Neesham. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah also had a fine performance as he once again found himself amongst the wickets. Despite a decent start to the innings, RR failed to put up a respectable score on the board. Only four batters for the men in pink managed to score in double figures, and no one got past the 25-run mark. It was a concerning batting performance that might see them lose all hope of making it to the play-off stages this season.

For MI, this is a chance to get level on points with fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and massively improve their run rate. The pacers certainly did the job today for Rohit Sharma. Coulter-Nile was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged four wickets in his four overs and conceded only 14 runs. Neesham was also one of the stars as he picked three wickets in four overs and conceded just 12 runs. As usual, Bumrah was in the mix as well. The Indian pacer picked up a couple of wickets and conceded just 14 runs in his four overs. He is now third in the list of the highest wicket-takers this season, behind Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan.

BATTING CONCERNS FOR RR

The RR batting unit cut a woeful look on the day. They were given a decent start by openers Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom have been in good form recently. Lewis scored 24 runs off 19 balls while Jaiswal made 12 off nine. Skipper Sanju Samson could not trouble the scorers much as hye only managed to score three runs.

David Miller and Rahul Tewatia also got into double figures but the rate of scoring was just way too slow. Miller scored 15 runs off 23 deliveries while Tewatia made 12 off 20. It was never going to be enough to get the men in pink to a half-decent score. They will have to bowl with all the skill and experience they have on the day to even have a slight chance of perhaps stealing the game from the defending champions. That, however, is a highly unlikely scenario.
