Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum has insisted on his players adopting a style of gameplay, that brings a smile to the faces of the fans. The Kolkata-based franchise recently recorded its second win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. KKR defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a league encounter which was held in Ahmedabad on Monday. This has helped them gain a little bit of momentum following four consecutive defeats, after a win in their opening match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

“I know that people are out there struggling with what is going on at the moment in terms of the pandemic and the situation not just here in India but also abroad,” said McCullum while interacting with kkr.in.

“We are going to do our best to try and play a brand of cricket and a style of cricket that gives those people back home something to look forward to, even if it is just for a three to four-hour period. We are in a privileged position, and we can give a little bit of hope even in these difficult times,” he added.

McCullum’s message a step in the right direction

The world outside the bio-secure bubble in which the IPL is being held, continues to struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic. McCullum’s message is certainly a step in the right direction, considering the safe approach which many franchises have been guilty of adopting in the past for ensuring victory at any cost.

The Knight Riders family has extended its support to the people of India with special messages from Pat Cummins, Shubman Gill, Prasidh Krishna and Abhishek Nayar. Cummins has also donated a sum of USD 50,000 to PM CARES fund for “oxygen supplies”.

The players have requested the masses to follow all the necessary precautions to fight the COVID-19 and urged them to stay home and stay safe with their family members. The Knight Riders have not won any edition of the cash-rich league since 2014. They will be eager to break this run, with a triumph in the ongoing edition. It will not be easy for sure.
