India vs West Indies: Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill make ODI comeback for three-match series

Wicket keeper-batter Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill made a comeback as the ODI squad for three-match series against the West Indies was announced on Wednesday.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee named a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series for the tour of the West Indies, starting from July 22 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Wicket keeper-batter Sanju Samson and opener Shubman Gill made a comeback to the squad which will be led by veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja named his deputy. 

Samson makes a return to the ODI squad after he played his only ODI in Sri Lanka last year while Gill makes his comeback for the first-time after the tour to Australia in December 2022. Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, along with rising India opener Ishan Kishan will be the two wicket keeper-batter in the tour of the West Indies for the ODI series.

India vs West Indies: Shikhar Dhawan to lead the visitors

Veteran India opener Dhawan will lead the side with all-rounder Jadeja named his deputy with the regular white-ball specialists Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami rested for the ODI series. KL Rahul, who underwent a surgery for sports hernia recently, was not considered for selection.

Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur have been included as the fast bowlers for the West Indies tour while veteran wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will lead the spin department along with Axar Patel in the ranks.
