India will host South Africa for the fourth T20I at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Friday. The series began with India conceding a 0-1 lead to South Africa in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday. The bandwagon, then, moved to Cuttack for the second T20I at the Barabati Stadium while the third match will be played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam with the fifth match scheduled to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, on June 19.

The India vs South Africa bi-lateral series rivalry tracks back to early 90s. It was in 1992-93 when India toured South Africa for the first time for four Tests and seven ODIs from October 1992 to January 1993. The hosts reigned supreme in both the formats during India’s maiden tour. Later in 1996-97, a Sachin Tendulkar-led Team India faced Hansie Cronje-led South African team. The visitors lost the Test series 0-2 to South Africa by a big margin.

However, with the evolution of cricket, India and South Africa has faced each other in the Twenty20 International (T20I) format for a bi-lateral series quite often in the recent past. India and South Africa have played each other in 15 T20Is so far. India have won 9 matches and the Proteas have emerged victorious in 6 matches so far. India will next host South Africa for a five-match T20I series, starting from June 9 in New Delhi. The series will be of utmost importance for both the sides as it could test out some emerging talents and be a dress rehearsal ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia from October.
