India and Pakistan have played only one T20I bilateral series in their entire history. In 2012, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the series in India. Both India and Pakistan have played in only major ICC events due to political tensions between the two countries. But, if this recent proposal by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is to be believed, India and Pakistan might play frequently.

Ramiz Raja has proposed a four-nation Twenty20 International series between India, Pakistan, England, and Australia. If the ICC agrees to the proposal, the profits will be shared by all the member Boards involved.

Ramiz Raja’s plan a Game-changer?

On his Twitter account, he stated, “Will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20I Super Series involving Pak Ind Aus Eng to be played every year, To be hosted on a rotation basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on percentage basis with all ICC members. Think we have a winner.”

India and Pakistan last clashed in the 2021 ICC World T20, with Pakistan recording their first win against India in the ICC World T20. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s knocks helped Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets. In previous editions of the tournament, India had gotten the better of Pakistan.

Pakistan reached the semi-final of the ICC World T20 where they were knocked out by Australia. Matthew Wade hit three sixes off Shaheen Afridi to knock the pre-tournament favorites out of the tournament. England also reached the semi-final. But they were eliminated by a determined New Zealand side thanks to a brilliant knock by Daryl Mitchell. India could not reach the semi-finals after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand.

India vs Pakistan Tournament difficult to go ahead

The proposed Super T20 League between the four nations might run into a bottleneck. The reason is the existing tensions between India and Pakistan. The two nations reached the point of war during the Pulwama Terror attack that saw many CRPF Jawans killed. There were calls to boycott the 2019 ICC World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Old Trafford. But, the match went ahead with India winning the contest by a big margin. They extended the head-to-head in World Cups to 7-0 against Pakistan.

With the tensions between the two nations still high, getting this series off might be very difficult. With the cricket calendar also packed thanks to the IPL and other major events, squeezing this tournament might be a logistical challenge. Pakistan is expected to host the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 but whether India will participate is a different thing altogether.
