After a successful ODI series, Team India (IND) will host New Zealand (NZ) for a three-match T20I series. The first of three games will be held in Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium Complex on January 27th 2023. While Mitchell Santner will captain the New Zealand team, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya will captain the team again for the T20I series. Rohit Sharma has no intention of abandoning T20Is just yet. Rahul Dravid is “unaware” of any intentions for a split captaincy in India; when asked about it during a news conference before the third ODI, he told the reporter to check with the selectors. But for the time being, this is Hardik Pandya’s squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, India’s white-ball opening possibility, has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand due to a wrist injury. The 25-year-old has checked into Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for an assessment of his ailment and subsequent rehabilitation. Gaikwad last played for Maharashtra against Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 8 and 0 in that game and later informed the BCCI about his wrist injury. In fact, Gaikwad’s wrist is bothering him for the second time. With a similar ailment, he missed last year’s T20I against Sri Lanka. He also missed last year’s home ODIs against the West Indies after testing positive for Covid.

Pitch

The pitch at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium Complex often favours spinners. Because it is not a high-scoring surface, batters will not have a large role to play. Teams will instead struggle to put up a big score. A total of more than 150 can be competitive.

Probable Playing XIs for IND vs NZ

India

Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh

New Zealand

Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, Dave Cleaver, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner

Players to watch

Shubman Gill has had a strong start to his ODI career, but he has only played three T20Is, making his debut during the Sri Lanka series. Last year, he was the fifth-highest run-getter in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, but he played more of an anchor role, scoring at 132.32. He didn’t have a good time during the Sri Lanka series, and he normally takes his time letting go. For the time being, he has the support of the team’s management, but Shaw will be hot on his tail, especially if he makes a mistake.
