On Tuesday, India Women will face Australia Women in the fifth and final T20I. (December 19). The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be playing for pride only, as the visitors have won the series. The fourth T20I was another nail-biter inside Mumbai’s Brabourne stadium. The Indian captain put the Aussies into bat once more, and Ellyse Perry once again shone with the bat. She won the match with a match-winning 72(42), assisted by Ashleigh Gardner’s 42(27) and Grace Harris’ 27. (12). The top three Indian batsmen, on the other hand, left early, but Harmanpreet Kaur and Devika Vaidya ensured that India stayed in the game to chase a massive total of 189 runs.
Richa Ghosh batted brilliantly for 40*(19), but it was Ashleigh Gardner’s 18th over in which she picked up two wickets as India lost by 7 runs. So far, India’s bowling has let them down in four T20I games. Spinners and pacers have struggled to bring up consistent wickets. Worse, the dew is complicating matters for India. With the exception of Devika Vaidya, the others have been underwhelming. Australian batsmen have had little difficulty scoring runs in the middle overs. Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry have excelled in the T20 series.
