India are well and truly in control of the second and final Test match against New Zealand as they ended Day 2 in dominant fashion. The hosts were bowled out for 325 runs. Mayank Agarwal was the highest run scorer as he made 150 runs as Axar Patel scored 52. New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel had earlier made history as he became only the third bowler ever to pick three wickets in a single innings in a Test match. The Kiwi batting order, however, completely tumbled as they were bowled out for just 62, their lowest Test total against India. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged four wickets and Mohammed Siraj picked three. India decided to not enforce a follow on and at the end of the day, the hosts were 69-0 with a lead of 332 runs.

INDIAN BOWLERS ROCK KIWIS

New Zealand recorded their lowest ever Test score against India on the day as they were dismissed for just 62 runs. The Indian bowlers were at the top of their game, with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bagging four wickets for just eight runs in as many overs. Ashwin displayed a fantastic performance in the first Test as well and is having an exceptional series.

Pacer Mohammed Siraj was at the top of his game on the day as well as he picked three wickets for 19 runs in four overs. All-rounder Axar Patel bagged a couple of wickets and conceded 14 runs in 9.1 overs and Jayant Yadav picked one wicket.

AJAZ PATEL CREATES HISTORY

Ajaz Patel became the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to take all 10 wickets in an innings. When he dismissed Mohammed Siraj, Ajaz Patel took all 10 wickets in the Indian innings. He finished with figures of 47.5-12-119-10 to create history. 22 and a half years ago, Anil Kumble was the last bowler to take 10 wickets when he took 10/74 against Pakistan at the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi.

This is a truly historic feat as there have been only three instances in the 144-year history of Test cricket. Jim Laker was the first individual to take all 10 wickets in an innings when he took 10/37 against Australia in Old Trafford in 1956. 43 years later, Anil Kumble took 10/74 in Delhi. Now, in the 21st century, Ajaz became the third bowler.

MAYANK SCORES 150

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal was exceptional with the bat in the first innings as he scored a brilliant 150 runs off 311 deliveries. The young batter showed great composure to get important runs on the board to help his team get to a good score. Mayank played shots all around the park as he recorded 17 boundaries and four maximums in his knock. It is certainly an innings he can be proud of and build on in the future.

Axar Patel also did a fine job for India with the bat as he scored an impressive half-century. The all-rounder made 52 runs off 128 deliveries. He hit five boundaries and one maximum.

Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara walked out to the middle to open India’s second innings. Pujara was opening in place of Shubman Gill who had earlier taken a blow to his elbow. Mayank remained unbeaten on 38 while Pujara is not out on 29 at the end of play on the day.
