Virat Kohli has reassured fans over his availability for the series decider in the ongoing five-match T20I series vs England. The 32-year-old “aggravated” an upper quad (thigh) muscle while fielding in the fourth T20I, which India won by eight runs. “I ran for a ball, I dived and I threw it, so I was probably not in the best position. It’s nothing serious. I should be fine by the day after tomorrow because we have the game in the evening,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation as quoted by Cricinfo. Kohli further elaborated by stating that he was previously fielding in the inner ring, before switching to the outfield.

“I just moved out to the outfield, earlier I was fielding in the inner ring. And the temperature drops pretty quickly, so your body tends to get stiff. So I just aggravated my upper quad a little bit. I didn’t want to make it into a niggle or an injury,” he explained.

Injury scare before IPL

Kohli sustained the muscle strain during the 15th over, watching the remaining overs from the dugout. Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy in his absence, ensuring a win in a do-or-die encounter.

Team India were sent in to bat by England skipper Eoin Morgan, who won the toss. The hosts posted a total of 185 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was the highest run-scorer, accumulating 57 runs off 31 deliveries. Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, accounting for four dismissals.

England were restricted to 177/8 during the chase, with all-rounder Ben Stokes the leading run-getter. Stokes smashed 46 runs off 23 deliveries with four boundaries and three sixes. Shardul Thakur picked three wickets for Team India, as Hardik Pandya and Rahul Chahar chipped in with two dismissals apiece.
