A slew of international talents will have the opportunity to add to their already impressive credentials when 13 individual awards are announced on ICC Digital networks in the coming days. The prized ICC Awards for 2022 will be announced during an exciting four-day period following an extended voting campaign done by cricket media personalities and fans alike. On January 23, the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year and ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year will be named, followed by the corresponding ODI teams and Men’s Test XI the following day.

And the action really heats up on Wednesday, January 25, when the first of the 13 highly anticipated individual prizes are presented via ICC media. Mohammad Rizwan, a Pakistan veteran, is among the nominees for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award, which will be announced on that day, and he might become the first two-time winner of the award if he wins again in 2021. Rizwan faces stiff opposition in the form of India’s superstar Suryakumar Yadav, Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winner Sam Curran.

Women’s awards

The comparable women’s award will be won for the first time, with India’s Smriti Mandhana, Pakistan’s Nida Dar, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, and Australia’s Tahlia McGrath competing for the title of ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year. It will be similar on Thursday, January 26, when England all-rounder Ben Stokes, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, and India star Mandhana will all be vying to win many accolades. Stokes won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2019 and is one of four nominees for the 2022 award, along with New Zealand quick Tim Southee, Babar and Raza.

It may be a good day for Babar, who is also up for a second ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award after winning it in 2021. Babar will face competition from Australia spinner Adam Zampa, West Indies batter Shai Hope, and Raza, making it difficult for the Pakistan captain to win back-to-back trophies. Mandhana is also in line for a second consecutive and third overall Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, having won the award in 2018 and 2021. Mandhana is competing for the top women’s prize against Australia’s Beth Mooney, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, and England’s Nat Sciver.
