India captain, Harmanpreet Kaur is looking forward to the inaugural Women’s IPL, with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup right around the corner. The Indian captain is undaunted by the opposition’s challenge in the next ICC mega event and is instead focused on maximising her team’s capabilities. The daring all-rounder is also looking forward to sharing the IPL locker room with foreign players. Harmanpreet Kaur has had an incredible year for the Indian squad, leading them to a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year and a historic seventh Asia Cup championship in September.

The inspirational Indian captain commended the BCCI’s initiative to launch the Women’s IPL, saying it would greatly help domestic players by giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with foreign players, “The women’s IPL is something we are looking forward to. It will be a good experience, especially for the domestic players who are good but were not getting the chance to play at the international level. This is a great platform for them, and if they perform well, they will definitely get picked for the national side,” Harmanpreet said on News18.

WBBL helped me-Harmanpreet Kaur

The hard-hitting Indian all-rounder is a role model in the dressing room, having been one of the first players to play in international franchise leagues such as the WBBL and The Hundred. She noted that younger players will learn a lot by playing among international players, just as she did while playing in foreign leagues. She could not play in WBBL 2022 because of an injury issue but she has been named player of the tournament in the past.

“They are also going to share the dressing room with overseas players, and when you play with them, your competence goes high as well. You’re definitely going to learn great things from them. That’s what happened to me when I played the WBBL and The Hundred. I learned a lot from them, shared my thoughts, and got ideas from them as well,” Kaur added.
