Devon Conway was dismissed early but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali made full use of the powerplay

Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK got an early setback as Devon Conway was cleaned up by an in-angler from Mohammed Shami. Moeen Ali walked in and was aggressive from the get-go. Ruturaj and Ali stitched 36 runs partnership, they smashed the ball to all parts of the ground and looked like they would take the game away from the home team.

Rashid Khan got Ali’s wicket followed Ben Stokes and put the Gujarat Titans ahead in the game. Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube looked scratchy which led to the dismissal of the elegant batter for eight runs short of his century. CSK got off to 178 runs on the back of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 92 off 50 balls, who had a magnificent day, he looked in fantastic touch and timed the ball to perfection.

The Gujarat Titans’ bowlers had a good day at the office

Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Alzarri Joseph scalped two wickets each with Joshua Little a solitary one. The Caribbean bowler was taken to the cleaners in his first over but made a strong comeback. The Gujarat Titans did well to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 178, they were brilliant with the yorkers and slower balls.

Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha were aggressive from the get go and did massive damage in the powerplay. The first wicket fell at 37 runs when Saha, but the work was done. Sai Sudharsan stepped in as the impact player substitute for Kane Williamson who had injured his knee earlier at the time of fielding. Gill stayed till the end of the 15th over, garnering 63 runs off 36 balls but it was Vijay Shankar who stuck around (27 off 21 balls) and helped the castle to get rebuilt.

Chennai Super King got back in the game towards the end but failed to get over the line

A brilliant 17th over from Deepak Chahar meant that 30 runs were needed from the 18 balls. It came down the line with Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia in the middle. Rashid Khan hit a six and four in the 19th over from Chahar and changed the game on its head. They needed 8 more runs to win from the last over and Tewatia finished the match in style with a six and a boundary.
