In their third match of the Super 12 stage, Team India was narrowly defeated by the Proteas, snapping their T20 World Cup winning run. While many analysts have questioned the Indian top order following their performance on a tricky pitch in Perth, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly supported Rohit Sharma’s team to advance to the semifinals and wished that they reached the tournament’s final.

Following the conclusion of his term as BCCI president last month, Sourav Ganguly resigned from the position. Ganguly, who led India to the World Cup final in 2003, predicted that the Indian squad would advance to the T20 World Cup finals this year, saying that the team has only lost one match and is in terrific shape with everyone playing well.

‘CAB is in good hands to host 2023 World Cup’: Sourav Ganguly

“India only lost one match. India will qualify. Everyone is doing good. India will qualify, I hope. I am hopeful that India will play finals. Let them qualify, and after that, they will play (the) last two games. That can be anyone’s game.”

the former India captain said at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s Annual General Meeting on October 31.

Snehasish Ganguly, Sourav’s brother has been elected as the head of the Cricket Association of Bengal, a position which Sourav himself held before becoming the BCCI president. On the appointment of the new team, he said, “This is the new team to lead CAB. All of them are very much experienced. We hope they will do well. I don’t have to give any suggestions to them. They all know what to do. They will do good. Next year there is World Cup. Not difficult to organise World Cup.”

Sourav own’s future remains uncertain as of now. It remains to be seen if chooses to be in cricket administration or may get involved as a coach with any of the IPL teams. He was associated with Delhi Capitals in the past.
