England vs India: England name playing XI for 5th Test

England on Thursday announced their playing XI for the rescheduled fifth Test against India, that starts from July 1. The match will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham. James Anderson, who was rested for the third and final Test against New Zealand, is making a comeback into the XI by replacing Jamie Overton. Sam Billings will be the wicketkeeper in place of Ben Foakes, who had earlier tested positive for Covid-19.

“The Three Lions make one change to the side that won the third Test against New Zealand at Headingley, with Jimmy Anderson returning to the side in place of Jamie Overton,” the England Cricket Board said in an official statement.

India currently leads the five-match series 2-1. They will be lead by pacer Jasprit Bumrah after Covid-19 hit Rohit Sharma was officially ruled out of the fifth Test. Rishabh Pant has been named as the vice-captain for the Test. The rescheduled Test between India and England was originally scheduled to be played in Old Trafford last year but was suspended after a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp.
