Jofra Archer has been ruled out of England’s two-Test series against New Zealand. This is after having suffered a setback in his return from an elbow injury. Archer complained of pain in his right elbow and bowled just five overs for Sussex in the second innings against Kent in the County Championship.

The England Cricket Board confirmed on Sunday that the 26-year-old will now seek further medical advice over the next course of action. This means he will not feature in either game against the Black Caps on home soil.

Archer made a noteworthy comeback against Kent. He managed to pick two wickets for just 29 runs in 13 overs. But that wasn’t enough to prevent the rain-hit contest finishing in a draw.

This is another setback for the 26-year-old pace bowler. He was forced out of action with hand and elbow troubles since the T20I series in India.

A surgery to remove a piece of glass from his hand followed by a rehab program to tend to his long-standing elbow injury had ruled him out of the IPL and the early stages of the County Championship.

The Barbados-born player wasn’t even a part of the Rajasthan Royals camp a result of it for this season’s IPL.

Although the second half of the league is yet to be played later this year, it is unlikely that Archer returns to the Royals provided he’s fit, as England have a packed international schedule ahead.

JOFRA ARCHER IMPACT

Jofra Archer has been a revelation for England cricket. He is easily of the biggest X-factor players they possess. Archer has scalped 42 wickets from just the 13 Tests for England. This also includes three five-wicket hauls.

Other than that, he’s also managed to pick 30 wickets from 17 ODIs. He’s also been a success in the IPL with 46 wickets from 35 appearances for Rajasthan Royals.

England do have veterans James Anderson and Stuart Broad available at their service. But Archer’s absence could turn out to be a big blow for the summer ahead.
