Devon Conway has been the ultimate run-scoring machine for New Zealand ever since his debut in 2021. In his very first Test at Lord’s, Conway created history as he scored a double century on debut at the home of cricket. Now, in his first home Test, Devon Conway hit his second century to boost New Zealand on day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh at Bay Oval. Conway’s Test, ODI, and T20I records are spectacular. With this knock at the Bay Oval, he averages 83 in Tests. In ODIs and T20Is, he averages 75 and 50 respectively.

The debut ton at Lord’s and a century in his very first Test at home has put Devon Conway in an elite list. Conway is the sixth player in the history of cricket to have smashed a century in his first Tests both at home and away. However, it is not since 2004 that this feat has been achieved. Michael Clarke and Andrew Strauss achieved it in that year. Here is the complete list of players who have achieved this feat.

Devon Conway and his ‘special moment’ in front of fans

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat against Bangladesh at Bay Oval. Conway and Will Young shared a partnership in excess of 100, with Young scoring 52. Conway’s special 122 boosted New Zealand but his dismissal titled the balance towards Bangladesh. Yet, it was a special beginning to 2022 for Devon Conway who has made himself the pillar of the New Zealand batting.

Conway hailed that special moment to raise his bat on reaching the milestone in front of home fans. “I think today firstly playing in New Zealand in a Test match, it was very special to be out there. And then personally, it was a great feeling to have Ross Taylor there out in the middle with me when I achieved that milestone. He was very positive. Told me to soak it in, and congratulated me. It will last in my memory for a very long time,” Conway said.

Conway also admitted that the Bangladesh bowlers bowled with discipline and it was not easy at the beginning. “The surface was assisting them as well. We knew we could play the more attacking shots later in the day,” Conway said.
