Ireland fast-bowler Curtis Campher joined an elite list, after accounting for four dismissals in as many deliveries on Monday. Curtis recorded the unique milestone in his nation’s T20 World Cup 2021 encounter against Netherlands. The cricketer is only the third bowler in T20I history to register as many dismissals, after Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga. Rashid and Malinga had recorded the unique milestones against Ireland and New Zealand respectively back in 2019. Curtis is further the only other player barring legendary Australian cricketer Brett Lee to register a hat-trick in an edition of the men’s T20 World Cup. Lee had registered the milestone in the 2007 edition of the tournament, in an encounter against Bangladesh.

“It is good to be out there again, was out due to a few injuries. I wasn’t feeling great with the ball (after the first over), but that one over (where he got 4 wickets) was a good one. The conditions are a bit slower here in the UAE. He (Balbirnie) gives me the freedom to do what I want,” said Curtis after recording the milestone as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The 22-year-old grew up in Johannesburg and represented South Africa at Under-19 level. However, a chance conversation with Ireland’s Niall O’Brien revealed that his grandmother, who came from Derry, qualified him to don the green shirt. Having moved to Ireland at the beginning of 2020, Campher was selected for their A team (the Wolves). The cricketer battled it out against Namibia in a 50-over match and scored 54 on debut – although he failed to take a wicket.

Campher registered another half-century on his full ODI debut against England at Southampton in July 2020, top-scoring with 59 not out from 118 balls. He went on to claim the wicket of Tom Banton. Campher bettered his batting performance with 68 from 87 balls in the second ODI and finished the three-match series, which England won 2-1, with five wickets at an average of 28.80. Ireland handed the cricketer his T20I debut in August. Until Monday’s heroics in Abu Dhabi, his best bowling figures were 3-19 during the warm-up series against the UAE ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan surpasses Malinga to become leading wicket taker in T20Is

The exploits in the shortest format continue, after Shakib recently surpassed Malinga to become the leading wicket taker in T20Is. The Bangladesh all-rounder on Sunday became the leading wicket-taker in men’s T20Is, after accounting for the dismissal of Michael Leask in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 Group B encounter against Scotland. Shakib sent Leask back to the pavilion to account for his 108th wicket in the shortest format of international cricket. The all-rounder had earlier dismissed Richie Berrington during the same encounter. Shakib has now surpassed Malinga (107), which is definitely impressive to say the least.

Shakib recently became the first player to score 1,000 runs and account for 100 dismissals in all formats of the game. The Bangladesh all-rounder accounted for the wicket of Australian cricketer Ashton Turner on August 9, to record the unique milestone in the final T20I of the five-match series between the two nations.
