England Test captain Ben Stokes will appear in a documentary based on life which is set to release on OTT platforms.

The ‘dizzy highs’ and the ‘crushing lows’ of new England Test captain Ben Stokes which brought forward his strong character and made him one of the most prolific all-rounders of the modern era will be highlighted in a soon to be released documentary. The documentary named, ‘Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes’, is directed by Hollywood director Sam Mendes.
The British film director is well known for his movies like American Beauty (1999), which earned him the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Director, besides crime film Road to Perdition (2002), Jarhead (2005), the drama Revolutionary Road (2008), and the James Bond films Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015). He won the BAFTA Award for Best Direction and a second Golden Globe Award for Best Director, as well as his second Academy Award nomination for Best Director, for the war film 1917 (2019).

The documentary will be released in 2022 with the dates still to be announced.
It is understood that Ben Stokes will narrate his life story in the documentary. “One thing I want to try and do with this is to get a side across to people that is quite tough to do in the image that we give across on TV. Certain aspects in the media you have to do in a certain way, to come across in a certain way, to please a certain amount of people whereas for this I don’t feel like I’m having to do that,” the England Test captain said.
The documentary will be released on Amazon Prime.
Ben Stokes has seen his fair bit of highs and lows in his eventful career. From playing a match-winning knock at the Headingley Test in the Ashes to taking breaks due to mental health, he has seen it all. The documentary will revolve around it and believes it will show him in a different light. “I still think it’s crazy sat here that there’s a documentary being done about me. And then on top of that having Sam come and do the interviews. The whole thing is a crazy experience still for me to think about.”
