The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned the veteran journalist Boria Majumdar for 2 years over ‘threatening and intimidating’ messages to experienced India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha. The board has already informed all the states about this in an internal letter addressed by interim CEO Hemang Amin as well. However, the decision was taken on the basis of the report from a 3-member committee, including vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and councillor Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, who has investigated the allegations of Wriddhiman Saha.

Boria Majumdar won’t get any accreditation for 2 years

Notably, Saha had claimed that he was bullied by a veteran journalist after he refused to give an interview. And, the 3-member committee heard from both Saha and Boria Majumdar before asking for the 2-year ban to the BCCI Apex Council. Meanwhile, the 3-member committee has also decided that his actions were indeed in nature of threat and intimidation and the BCCI Apex Council has also agreed with the 3-member committee and imposed the ban as well.

According to the internal letter, these have been imposed on Boria Majumdar:

2. A 2-year ban on getting any interviews with any registered players in India.
3. A 2-year ban on access to any of the BCCI and members association-owned cricket facilities too.

Wriddhiman Saha-Boria Majumdar debacle

However, this incident came into the limelight on February 19, earlier this year, via a Twitter post along with screenshots of his discussions with the Indian journalist. “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket… this is what I face from a so-called ‘Respected’ journalist! This is where journalism has gone,” Saha tweeted.

While many backed the veteran India batter, former India head coach Ravi Shastri had asked the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to look into the matter immediately as well. However, Saha is currently playing for the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and he has been in good form with the bat. As far as his sid is concerned, they are at the top of the points table with 16 points to their name.
