Pakistan captain Babar Azam has broken records in recent years with consistent performances across forms. While achieving 10,000 and 11,000 international runs this year, Babar has added another feather to his cap in the ongoing first Test match against England at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. While Azam scored another mouth-watering century and reached 1000 Test runs at home, the 28-year-old also broke a record by slamming the most tonnes in international cricket in 2022. He has three centuries in Test cricket, 3 in ODIs and 1 in T20Is.

Thus, the Pakistan captain topped English batting star Jonny Bairstow’s overall score of six tonnes in 2022 with seven centuries this year. Apart from these two, Babar’s colleague Imam-ul-Haq and former England Test captain Joe Root have each scored five hundred, while Australian Test opener Usman Khawaja has four tonnes. Aside from those seven tonnes, Azam has also registered 14 half-centuries this year. In this match (1st Test against England), Babar scored 136 runs off 168 deliveries to help Pakistan reach 500 runs in response to England’s first innings total of 657 on a flat pitch.
