The Australia National Cricket Team defeated the West Indies by 419 runs in the second Test of the two-match Test series at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, claiming 12 key ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 points. In the absence of skipper Pat Cummins, who was ruled out of the contest due to a minor quad injury, Steve Smith led the Australians in the second Test against the West Indies, which was a pink-ball Test match.

In addition, elite bowler Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the second Test owing to “general pain,” but additional examination found a minor left-side injury. As replacements for Cummins and Hazlewood, Ashes 2021-22 star Scott Boland and bowler Michael Neser were named to the playing XI. After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first in the match. Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head batted particularly well against the West Indies attack, prompting Australia to declare the innings at 511/7.
