After the country’s opposition revealed preparations for a protest that could shut down the city the same day, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to move an ODI against India next month from Dhaka. India will begin their first visit to Bangladesh since 2015 the following week with a three-match ODI series that will start on December 4. The initial plan was for all three games to be played in Dhaka. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) demonstration, which is anticipated to draw tens of thousands to the streets of Dhaka, will now be avoided by moving the third game of the series on December 10 to the seaside city of Chittagong.

Since last month, the BNP has organised a number of sizable protests across the nation in an effort to compel the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration. “Chittagong was originally scheduled to host one Test. We felt there should be an ODI at the venue too,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) operations chief Jalal Yunus told AFP on Wednesday (November 23).
