KKR are on the lookout for an experienced opener who can anchor the innings at the top. Since Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa left the side, various players were tried at the top but lacked consistency and failed to live up to the team management’s expectations. KKR have released England’s wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings and Australian opener Aaron Finch. There is a big void to be filled at the top order and they will be looking to address this in the upcoming auction.

Vishnu Vinod

Vishnu Vinod is an aggressive opening batsman and wicketkeeper from Kerala. He has a solid technique and also can play the attacking strokes when required. The 28-year-old has become a well-established name in the Indian domestic circuit by consistently putting valuable contributions towards Kerala’s success. In 2017, Vinod made his IPL debut for RCB replacing injured KL Rahul, he has featured in three matches for RCB. In the 2021 IPL auctions, he was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 20 lakh and later by SRH in 2022. Vishnu Vinod has been released by SRH and could be a great inclusion for KKR at the top of the order as they are looking for an opener.

Will Smeed

Will Smeed is a young attacking opener who has been following the footsteps of the current crop of English players with the likes of Alex Hales and Adil Rashid who focus only on shorter formats. The 21-year-old has scored a total of 886 runs in 35 T20 matches with an impressive strike rate of 141. The opener scored the first century in the 100 and has the ability to take the game away from the opposition early in the powerplay. He lacks experience but makes it up for that with his consistency and aggressive strokeplay.

Tanmay Agarwal

Tanmay Agarwal is a left-hand opening batter who hails from Hyderabad. Tanmay is the skipper of the Hydrabad team and was the leading run-getter for the side during the team’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 campaign. In seven matches, he scored 334 runs at a strike rate of 148.44 with four half-centuries. Agarwal is known for his innovative stroke play and has the ability to score runs in unconventional ways. Tanmay’s game is well-suited to the 20-over format and he stands a decent chance of bagging a contract with KKR in the upcoming auction.
