Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund have appointed Edin Terzic to fill the vacant head coach position from within. The German side informed on Monday that Terzic is set to pen a contract until 30th June 2025. Terzic, who guided them to German Cup triumph in 2021 will replace Marco Rose, who departed last week. Earlier, Terzic was promoted from assistant coach to interim head coach of Dortmund from December 2020 until May 2021. He had then taken over the role following Lucien Favre’s sacking. Terzic famously guided the team to German Cup glory before becoming the club’s technical director after Marco Rose was appointed from Borussia Mönchengladbach in mid-2021.

Who said what?

“We held several intensive discussions with Edin Terzic last weekend and are convinced that this personnel decision is the right one for BVB. Edin knows our club, the environment, a large part of the team and the areas we would like to fine-tune to be able to offer successful football to our fans. The 2022/23 season constitutes a fresh sporting start. We will press ahead with this together with great joy and passion,” said sporting director to-be Sebastian Kehl, according to the club’s website.

On his part, Edin Terzic said, “By now, many people are likely to be aware of the special importance BVB holds in my life. I’d therefore like to express my sincere thanks to Aki Watzke, Michael Zorc and Sebastian Kehl for the great trust they have placed in me and for giving me this great responsibility. We will do everything in our power every day to make the team and the entire club successful.” A statement from the Dortmund website concluded by saying, “Borussia Dortmund will hold talks about the composition of the future coaching staff in the course of the coming days.”

Marco Rose departs from Borussia Dortmund

Recently, Dortmund announced the shock departure of head coach Marco Rose. The club finished second in Bundesliga, managing 69 points from 34 games and finished eight points behind champions Bayern Munich. “This decision is the outcome of an intensive season analysis conducted by Rose, Hans-Joachim Watzke (chief executive officer), Michael Zorc (sporting director), Sebastian Kehl (head of the licensed player department) and Matthias Sammer (external consultant) on Thursday,” a club statement read.

“The day was not an easy one for all of us, as we have all held each other in high regard and continue to do so. After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we were forced to conclude that we did not achieve the maximum possible in many areas,” said Hans-Joachim Watzke. Rose’s assistant coaches Alexander Zickler and René Maric, as well as athletics coach Patrick Eibenberger, will also no longer work for BVB going forward, the statement added.
