The Sydney will go against Brisbane Bullets in the NBL Australia match on October 7 at Qudos Bank Arena (Sydney). The Kings had a sluggish start to the previous campaign, winning only three of their first nine games. Sydney, nevertheless, went on a winning streak from February to April, winning 13 games in a row as it ascended the table. In a matchup for second place against the Illawarra Hawks in their last regular-season game, the Kings lost. This limited Chase Buford’s team to a third-place finish in the regular season. The Kings and Hawks played each other in a best-of-three series in the NBL Finals. Sydney took the series by storm in games one and two, winning both by a combined score of 12 points.
The Tasmania JackJumpers were in their inaugural season of the NBL when the Kings advanced to face them in the Grand Final series. In both of the games against Illawarra as well as in the first game against Tasmania, Jaylen Adams, the NBL’s Most Valuable Player, led the team in scoring. Adams’ 18 points helped the Kings defeat the JackJumpers 95-78 in the opening game.

The 26-year-old had an injury that eventually prevented him from participating in the remaining Grand Final games. In game two, the Kings were down after the first three quarters before coming back to win 90-86 and take a 2-0 series lead thanks in part to Xavier Cooks. A similar pattern continued into Game 3, with the Kings behind at the end of every quarter. They sealed the comeback and defeated the JackJumpers 31-19 in the last round to win 97-88 and win their first NBL title since 2005.
