Stephen Curry became the oldest scoring champion since Michael Jordan in 1998, finishing with 46 points as the Golden State Warriors held off the Memphis Grizzlies 113-101 on Sunday in a regular-season finale that determined the play in the tournament’s eighth and ninth spots. The 33-year-old won his first scoring title since 2016. He and Michael Jordan are the only NBA players to win a scoring title after turning 33. Curry got plenty of help from his teammates, including Jordan Poole who halted a Grizzlies rally with a late three-pointer.

The Warriors outscored the Grizzlies 45-18 from three-point range and outshot their opponents 49.4 percent to 43.5 overall.

“It is just confidence and the expectation and ability to know they are going to have opportunities,” said Curry of his teammates.

“If I get a lot of attention, we move the ball, they are out there to make plays.”

CURRY VS BEAL

Curry finished the regular season with a 32.0-point scoring average, claiming the league title over Washington’s Bradley Beal who scored 25 points earlier on Sunday to finish at 31.3 points per game.

He made nine of 22 three-pointers and also contributed nine assists and seven rebounds in Golden State’s sixth straight win. Curry averaged 32 points during his second 2,000-point season.

ELITE LIST

Curry also joins Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players with multiple scoring titles, most valuable players awards and NBA championships.

“He’s like the Picasso of our time,” said teammate Juan Toscano-Anderson. “You can’t have a knock on him. He’s the best doing it right now.”

The 33-year-old has put up MVP-level numbers across the board this season, proving why he’s one of the best point guards and shooters in the history of the league.

Curry continues to make history and looks as good as he’s ever been. He’s carried the Warriors into the play-in tournament and makes them a dangerous team that nobody wants to see in the postseason.
