Senegal vs Cameroon FIBA World Cup Qualifiers will be held on August 27 at Salle Mohamed Mzail. Senegal defeated Tunisia 73-63 on Saturday in Monastir, which is the first time the reigning African champions have ever lost two straight home games. With Senegal in dire need of a win after losing to Egypt the previous day, Tunisia knew they faced a difficult task—especially without their star player Salah Mejri, who was out with a knee injury. Dirk Bauermman, the head coach of Tunisia, commended the work of his team. “They are 34, 35, and older and are part of the “golden generation” who have contributed significantly to Tunisia’s basketball scene. They fully merit our support for what they have accomplished. They are the African champions, and they deserve to be wildly praised.”

Despite the loss, Tunisia played well in the opening minutes of the contest and led 40-33 at the half. But it was only a matter of time until Senegal came back to win the match. With a game remaining in Window 4 against Cameroon, Senegal may improve to 5-3 in the African Qualifiers thanks to Gorgui Dieng’s game-high 20 points and Brancou Badio’s 16 points and four assists. Yacine Toumi led Tunisia with 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Michael Roll contributed 14 points as the only player from that nation to reach double digits in scoring. The first three-quarters of the game were equally contested, but Senegal never trailed again after Yossoupha Ndoye made two free throws and Jean-Jacques Boissy made a three-pointer later in the third to give Senegal a 54-51 advantage going into the final ten minutes.
