San Miguel Beermen will take on Phoenix Fuelmasters in the PBA match on November 19 at PhilSports Complex (Pasig City). MAGNOLIA defeated San Miguel, 85-80, on Wednesday night in the 2022–23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, securing its official spot in the quarterfinals. The Chicken Timplados required the late heroics of the locals, led by Paul Lee and Mark Barroca, to keep their hold on first position with an 8-1 win-loss record, even though Nick Rakocevic was his regular, effective self. After the FIBA break, the Beermen lost their second straight game and dropped to 10th place in the rankings, reducing their record to 3-5. After having throat surgery, June Mar Fajardo donned a uniform for the first time, although she sat out the game.
For the Hotshots, Rakocevic finished with 26 points and 28 rebounds, while Lee added 14 points, including back-to-back threes to end a 10-2 run that helped them come back from a late-game deficit of 74-73. “We’re getting there in terms of where the coach wants us to be right now. We now rank first in terms of points allowed on defense. And that’s been the goal ever since the year began,” Magnolia assistant coach Jason Webb said following his team’s three-game winning streak in which they held opponents to 80 points or less.

For the Beermen, who started with a 10-2 lead but were unable to capitalize, Marcio Lassiter, CJ Perez, and Vic Manuel each had 16 points while Devon Scott finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
