The match is Puerto Rico vs USA. Puerto Rico defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 82-58 in their opening match in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022. With 31 points in the first quarter, the most ever by a team in a Women’s World Cup, they got off to an explosive start. With a total of 7, they also had the most three-pointers made by Puerto Rico.

Not just for Puerto Rico, but also for their top player Arella Guirantes, who finished the first game of the competition with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists, it was unquestionably a historic game. Given the performance, the player received an EFF rating of 36, a feat only one other player in the last two World Cups has accomplished.

In addition, this was the first time since the Women’s World Cup began keeping track of assists and rebounds that a player had at least 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists in a single game. Erika Dobrovicova (24-10-10) achieved the last triple double at a World Cup in 1994 when the Slovak Republic faced Spain. The Puerto Rican team is competing in its second consecutive Women’s World Cup and is in Group A.

Team USA looking for the 4th championship win

When the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup begins on Wednesday in Sydney, Australia, Team USA will be aiming for a fourth straight championship. The U.S. won the first of its 10 gold medals at the World Cup, which is now in its 19th year and is FIBA’s premier women’s competition.

12 countries will compete in the 2022 event, including the world’s third-ranked team and host Australia, as well as the Olympic silver medalists from 2021, Japan, and France. Play between two groups in a round-robin format kicks off the competition. In the knockout round, which is a single-elimination competition, the top four teams from each group will compete.
