For the first time in their history, Puerto Rico defeated South Korea 92-73 to progress to the World Cup quarterfinals. Arella Guirantes added 18 points, while Mya Hollingshed scored 29 as the Caribbean nation thrashed its adversaries. China finished second in Group A after a dominant showing in the pool round, defeating Belgium 81-55. After the third session, the score was 54-45 when the Chinese team mounted a final aggressive push to claim victory over the team that finished fourth in 2018.
After defeating Mali 88-65, Canada finished second in the group. Kayla Alexander had a double-double effort, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Serbia defeated French opponents France, 68-62, to take third place in Group B. In a rematch of the bronze medal game from Tokyo 2020, the Serbs prevailed owing in large part to an outstanding performance by Yvonne Anderson, who ended with 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
