Manawatu Jets vs Nelson Giants NBL will be held on July 16. The Nelson Giants season has been a huge success this year and since they have clinched first, their sights are now set on their ultimate goal of winning the playoffs which will be held during May. The only thing standing in their way to achieving that goal is another one of the competing teams as they play head-to-head with Manawatu Jets at Trafalgar Centre on May 8th. They’re so close and with five games left before playoff time, there’s no better time than now for the team to make a strong push towards achieving the coveted semi-finals game.
Mike Fitchett, coach for the Giants, said he thinks that fans deserve to see something exciting and interesting when they go to home games. He suggested that fans might like to cheer a little louder than usual because the team’s last four games would all be away from home. The Giants are not playing on their home court too much these days, but they’re very good at playing away from home; obviously, they think this has something to do with each game being different, so you might want to pay attention and try harder if you’re going to come out and watch them play.

Fitchett feels Americans are a big positive for their team. Their imports include Trey Mourning, the son of former NBA player Alonzo Mourning, Jarrod West, and Sam Thompson. Fitchett said those guys have been doing excellent so far this season. His team is also happy to see Giants captain Sam Dempster playing well in his 15th NBL year, partly due to a great physical regimen that he went through during the off-season. He’s more aggressive on the court these days too.
