The first day of the FIBA U18 European Championship had several blowouts, with France, Spain, and Turkey winning by at least 45 points. France opened the tournament with a 97-45 win over Great Britain. All 12 players scored for France, with the top scorer being Daryl Doualla with 13 points. France only led 19-15 after one quarter, but Great Britain never got that close again. France dominated the second and third quarters, outscoring them 60-16.
In their game against Great Britain, France got more points from their bench players (51) than Great Britain scored as a team. The other Group A game was a lot closer, with Israel defeating North Macedonia 79-70. Three-point shooting and turnovers proved to be key factors in the game. Israel outscored North Macedonia by 15 from behind the arc and forced 17 turnovers, while only committing 6 turnovers themselves. Four players scored in double figures for Israel, led by Noam Yaacov who put up a solid all-around game with 24 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
