The Gran Canaria will go against Barcelona in the Spain ACB match on September 30 at Spain. Following another setback at the hands of Real Madrid, Barcelona kicks begin their domestic league season in the Canary Islands. The UK is against a capable Gran Canaria team. Barcelona cruised into the Supercopa de Espaa competition in Seville last week, which was modeled after the Final Four. It was probably in the middle of a frustrating deja vu when they departed. After all, it’s simple to imagine how the entire event will have seemed like a miniature version of Barça’s 2021–22 campaign. Barça easily defeated neighboring Catalan team Joventut Badalona on Day 1 in Seville, 91-74, and advanced straight to the championship game. Of course, their “eternal foe,” Real Madrid, was there to greet them.
The championship game was, of course, a back-and-forth affair in which the teams alternated dominating periods (Barcelona won the second quarter 22–12, Madrid won the third 26–12), and Barcelona had to rally from a six-point deficit to force overtime. Unluckily for the Blaugrana, as has been the case far too frequently lately, Los Blancos had a little more left in the tank and pulled away in a raucous overtime session (18-12), securing a victory with a score of 89-83. This gets right to the heart of what makes the 2021–22 season so disappointing in the long run.
