Brazil will take on the Netherlands at Main Court, Bucharest, Romania in the FIBA U23 World Cup game on October 5. When it comes to 3×3 basketball, Mongolia continues to set the bar for Asian countries, but Japan is beginning to gain ground. The leading team in Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, is placed eighth in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, while the country is ranked fourth internationally overall. With the Cebu Chooks team recently moving up to No. 25 on the World Tour, the Philippines has been closing the gap on Mongolia. Two of Japan’s teams, meanwhile, have had respectable World Tour performances. On October 1-2 at the SM Seaside City Cebu, the Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 World Tour Cebu Masters will feature these two teams, the Utsunomiya Brex and the Saitama Alphas.
The top-ranked Japanese team in the world is Utsunomiya Brex, who are listed at position 28. The Utsunomiya Brex lost closely to Liman of Serbia, the second-ranked team in the world, and to Sakiai of Lithuania, the sixth-ranked team in the world, in the World Tour’s opening event, the Utsunomiya Masters, which the team hosted in May. Utsunomiya came in ninth place overall. Additionally, the group placed eighth in the Ulaanbaatar Challenger. The Energy Sukhbaatar Challenger, where they finished fifth, and the Penang Challenger, where they placed sixth, were their two best results on the 3×3 circuit.
