Benfica joined Baxi Manresa, VEF Riga, and Limoges CSP in Group G to make history by becoming the first club from Portugal to compete in the Basketball Champions League during the regular season. Another surprise occurred in Belgrade and Group D when the hosting Serbs of FMP Meridian were defeated 88-82 by the Danish champions Bakken Bears. Tony Carr, the 51st overall selection in the 2018 NBA Draft, made things happen with 34 points, while Beau Beech scored 23 points for the losing team. In Group E of the Regular Basketball Champions League, Bakken Bears will compete against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, Darüşşafaka, and Hapoel Jerusalem.
