Australia vs Japan will take place in the FIBA World Cup on September 27 at Sydney SuperDome. Teams don’t seem to get a chance to catch their breath during the FIBA Women’s World Cup, and the action has been brutal with some teams even playing back-to-back. Thus, despite the event just having started a few days ago, we are almost halfway through the Group Stage. And France will welcome the brilliance of Japan in this important match. Despite an unusual blip, France defeated Mali 74:59 thanks to tenacious Gabby Williams’ all-around 14-point performance that sealed the victory. However, Japan dropped yet another match, falling to Canada 56:70 after yet another feeble offensive performance. Currently, France has won two of the three matches, while Japan has won one of the three.

The Group B race is still quite open. Canada has won three straight games to qualify already. With second and third place, Australia and France are both within reach, although Serbia and Japan each have just one victory in three games. Given that a loss may cause a team to suffer serious setbacks, this game is extremely important for both Japan and even France. As Australia is Japan’s opponent in their last Group match, they face two challenging contests in quick succession. Serbia has a strong chance to win because Mali is the opponent in one of their games. Not that French ladies can unwind, mind you. They must win this game in order to qualify, and if they do, that’s it. But in order to do that, they will need to win this game because their next opponent is a desperation-stricken Serbian team. Their poor offensive has been a problem for both Japan and France. Rui Machida and Saki Hayashi are absent; one is a great facilitator and the other is a formidable three-point shooter.
