Melbourne will go against Brisbane in the Australia ABL on December 2. The Auckland Tuatara defeated the Brisbane Bandits 13-2 on Friday night to claim their first Australian Baseball League win of the season. Just 24 hours after being ruled out 6-0 by the Bandits of the Oakland franchise after his two-year coronavirus hibernation, the Tuatara has reversed fortunes in spectacular fashion.
Australian first baseman Jack Barry hit a monster home run in the top two innings to give the Tuatara an early lead and his team continued to run further on a regular basis. Former major league shortstop Zuwei Lin hit a grand slam homer in the eighth inning, and New Zealand catcher Clayton Campbell Jr. hit a two-run shot into the top of the ninth to secure the result. Starting pitcher Wei-Chun Weng said he pitched four innings, allowing just one run on two hits. Chien Yu was even more impressive in relief, allowing only one hit in three innings. The Tuatara will face the Bandits in the third game of the series on Saturday night before Sunday afternoon’s final at Brisbane’s Viticon Stadium.
